Angolan Airlines Partners Lufthansa To Boost Country-to-country Flights

Posted on : Wednesday , 1st October 2014

State owned TAAG Angola Airlines has partnered Lufthansa in a bid to increase flights between Germany’s Frankfurt and Angola’s Luanda.

“Lufthansa would add one more flight a week with an Airbus A340-300, which represents a 50 percent increase in capacity on flights between the two cities(Frankfurt and Luanda) ,”said chairman of Lufthansa Karl Ulrich Garnadt.

“We want to strengthen this partnership so we can offer our customers an increasing number of destinations,” Garnadt added.

TAGG Angola Airlines, based in Luanda, operates domestic services within Angola, as well as medium-haul services in Africa and long-haul services to Germany Brazil, Cuba, China and Portugal.

In June TAAG Angola Airlines acquired a Boeing 777-300 ER, the first aircraft in its fleet which will allow passengers to safely access internet and make phone calls during flights.

The airline was originally set up by the government in 1938. It joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1951.

In June 2007, the European Union(EU) banned TAAG from entering into European airspace because of safety concerns. Following EU ban, in November 2008, the entire TAAG board was replaced and a new board was appointed with the objective of turning the carrier round, and in particular getting it removed from the EU blacklist.
