Tanzania To Become ICT Hub In East And Central Africa

Posted on : Thursday , 6th August 2015

The Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL), in an event held in Dar es Salaam last week, announced that with the completion of the national fibre cable network and the official launch of the 100% national high-speed broadband coverage across Tanzania, it aims to make the country the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub in East and Central Africa.

The Tanzania national ICT optical cable backbone has already become the source of information technology for neighboring countries as Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, and Mozambique, explained TTCL’s Chief of Sales and Marketing Officer, Mr. Peter Ngota.

On the other hand, the new digital capability of 100% national high-speed broadband network brought by Avanti Communications, is a result of a contract signed with TCLL in June 2015 to deploy new satellites for high-speed broadband services beyond the fibre network.

With already three satellites in orbit, the new broadband network will help homes and businesses to enjoy connections of up to 15Mbs from the most remote locations in Tanzania, while encouraging new entrepreneurs with fast and reliable broadband services to develop their online businesses and collaborate with others to help Tanzania reaches its full digital potential, Mr. Ngota added.
