Korea agency VP concludes visit to Kenya

Kenya: South Korea is cementing its relationship with Kenya, ramping up its social investment projects in the country. Korea International Co-operation Agency ( KOICA) Vice President, Doo Jungsoo, was in the country between August 2 and 7, on an official visit to strengthen trade links with Kenya. During his stay, Mr Jungsoo made visits to projects that the agency is funding and those that it has earmarked for funding. He visited the upgraded Kitengela Sub-county Hospital in Kajiado County, where he held discussions with Kajiado County Governor, Dr David Nkedianye. In 2008, KOICA Kenya Office granted project aid of $2 million (Sh174 million) on request from the ministry of Public Health and Sanitation for the upgrade of Kitengela Health Centre. The upgraded health centre was opened to the public this year. The project included provision of medical equipment and supplies necessary for the day-to-day operations of the health centre. Mr Jungsoo visited the Millennium Promise MDG Centre Kenya Project site, and met with UNDP officials to discuss promotion of new KOICA-UNDP trust fund projects. He said KOICA considers Kenya as one of the priority partner countries where it has granted project aid on request by the Kenya Government. Some of the projects are the development of large-diameter wells along the Tana River Basin to supplement the Garissa urban water supply, construction and rehabilitation of primary schools, rehabilitation of the Naivasha-Suswa water supply scheme and the building of a water treatment plant for Asembo Bay.
