Kibaki Praises Kenya-Japan Ties, Calls for More Co-operation

Posted on : Tuesday , 3rd February 2015

Former President Mwai Kibaki has praised the good and long-running co-operation between Kenya and Japan that has translated into many social development programmes in the country. Mr Kibaki said through the collaboration, Kenya had benefited in various development spheres, more specifically in technology training, infrastructure development and food security. “Over the years, Japan has been Kenya’s key development partner in several arenas especially in technology-based programmes, education, infrastructure and food security,” the retired President said. Kibaki made the remarks when he received Japan’s ambassador to Kenya, Tatsushi Terada, at his Nairobi office Monday. Noting that the relationship between Kenya and Japan had seen many Kenyans graduate from Japanese universities, Kibaki expressed confidence that continued co-operation would lead to greater achievements for the mutual benefit of the two nations, and particularly Kenya, as it implements the Vision 2030 programmes.

“It is my sincere hope that going forward the relation between Kenya and Japan will grow stronger and make the people of our two nations better friends, and more importantly even better trade and development partners,” Kibaki said. Mr Terada noted that many development programmes aimed at uplifting the lives of Kenyans had been initiated and supported by Japan. He said his country would continue offering support to Kenya mainly in the human resource development, agriculture, environment, education, water and energy sectors.
