East Africa: Manufacturing Company expands to new product line

Posted on : Friday , 30th January 2015

SKOL Brewery yesterday launched a new production line that will enable it more than double its capacity to 200,000 hectolitres annually, up from 80,000 hectolitres presently, reports Ben Gasore.

The company, a subsidiary of Belgium-based Unibra, currently commands about 14 per cent of the market share, according to Ivan Wulffaert, the general manager.

Speaking during the inauguration of the factory at Kanyinya Sector in Nyarugenge District yesterday, Wulffaert said the expansion aims at satisfying the growing demand in the country, adding that the brewer looks to gain 35 per cent of the market share by 2020. He said the firm will achieve this by adding another line of 200,000 hectolitres production capacity in two years, making it close to 500,000 hectolitres per year by 2020,” he said.
While presiding over the event, the Minister for Trade and Industry, Francois Kanimba, commended Skol’s ‘fast’ growth in the market. The firm started operations in Rwanda in 2010, ending Bralirwa’s over 50-year monopoly.
