Solarcentury launches Kenyan arm

Posted on : Monday , 19th January 2015

UK-based Solarcentury has joined forces with Kenyan company East African Solar to target commercial PV projects in the country and wider region.

Solarcentury has had a Nairobi office since June 2013 headed up by company founder Dan Davies, who will be director of new venture Solarcentury in East Africa.

Former East African Solar chief executive Guy Lawrence will be director of business development and work alongside Davies and a team of seven to deliver solar projects throughout East Africa.

The company said it will help businesses “looking to reduce their reliance on costly diesel power and reliance on the grid”.

Davies said: “Since opening the office in Nairobi we have made significant inroads into the solar market in Kenya. Now, working with Guy Lawrence, we have an even stronger solar offering that we believe will appeal to many businesses in East Africa. Government support for renewables in this region is growing.”

Lawrence added: “Joining Solarcentury creates a highly competitive offering which is already proving appealing to businesses serious about cutting their energy bills and carbon emissions by reducing their reliance on fossil fuels.”

Last year, Solarcentury completed a 1MW installation for tea grower Williamson Tea in Kenya.
