In a few years from now many of the Arusha urban residents will be living some ten kilometres from the current city, following the laying of foundation for the proposed new 'Safari City,' to mushroom in Matevesi area.

The new city planned, drawn and being executed by the state-run, National Housing Corporation, has floated nearly initial 600 plots for residential use and these, according to the Regional NHC Manager, Mr James Kisarika, are to be sold to ordinary Tanzanians who would like to be part of the 'Safari City.'

Meanwhile also; "effective from this week the National Housing Corporation management will be constructing ten low-cost housing units to serve as exemplary blocks under the new planning," said Mr William Genya, the Business Development Manager at NHC Headquarters.

The ambitious 'Safari City,' project is taking off from 559.4 acres with expertly designed plots located about 3 kilometres from the Arusha Airport, within the range of 10 kilometres from the current Arusha City Centre and 50 kilometres from the Kilimanjaro International Airport.

The Assistant NHC Director General, Mr David Shambwe, said this will be the first phase in the proposed 'Safari City,' whose construction project gets to involve individuals, smallscale developers, institutions and small companies with the second phase to include more advanced development that will have shopping malls, industries and other larger real estate development entities.

The Arusha Regional Commissioner, Mr Daudi Felix Ntibenda, who was the guest of honour during the launch over the weekend, said the planned new Safari City will ease the congestion that is slowly but surely building up in Arusha-Urban precinct.
