The importance of the wood products sector in Rwanda has grown a lot in response to factors such as population, increasing demand in education and improving standards of living of the country. Wood, from time immemorial have established itself as valuable natural resources for energy and constructional material for variety of applications, such as constructions of building, furniture items, bridges, boats, lorry and tractor wagons.
The existence of favorable conditions for forest resource development, conservation and utilization Rwanda has been able to harness the expected economic, social and natural benefits from the wood-based industry sector and has increased its exportation of industrially processed wood products.
The construction boom in Kigali has contributed big time to the Wood sector in Rwanda and also there is an increased emphasis by the government on advocacy for tree planting to ensure a sustainable supply of timber.
